Recent Lunches

My SIL and I ate at The Greek Oven in Castlegar a couple of weeks ago, and it was pretty good. I had eaten there before once, three years previously, and didn't think it was very good. I had had a calamari meal and the coating on the squid was really salty. I decided to give the calamari another try this most recent visit, though, and it was actually decent. Shan had a chicken souvlaki wrap. The lunch menu at The Greek Oven is varied and inexpensive, and I would definitely go again.

I also had yet another great lunch at the Sunshine Cafe last week, along with my brother & SIL.

I had a chicken burger with mushrooms, bacon and Swiss cheese - yum!

My brother had the special, which was a capicolli pannini.

My SIL had a custom wrap full of all kinds of goodies - she said it was delicious.

Lunch at the Sunshine Cafe

It's been a while since I've had the pleasure of having lunch at Rossland's best lunch place, the Sunshine Cafe, but I got to go last week, and as usual, I was not disappointed!

I dined with my brother & SIL. Shan had the wrap special, which was Greek chicken, and the soup of the day, which was tomato & rice. The soup was so hearty she couldn't finish it all.My brother had a chicken burger with Swiss cheese and grilled onions, accompanied by the salad of the day, which was a Sweet Thai chicken pasta salad. He said it was awesome.I also opted for a chicken burger, wanting a change from my usual, which is the clubhouse sandwich. I had Swiss cheese and grilled mushrooms on my burger, and I had a side of fries because I was in a foul mood (it's amazing what a load of decent fries will do for grouchiness!). It was a great lunch!Again, the Sunshine didn't disappoint! I love this place!

The Heat is Still On...

The heat is still on and I haven't been doing any cooking or baking, though I have put some chicken stock on in my crock pot for a meal tomorrow. The heat wave is supposed to break tomorrow, though it is about 7C cooler today than it has been for over a week. These oven-like temperatures have seriously impinged upon my favourite creative outlets, and this blog!

Today I had a special treat: one of my bestest friends ever and her sister came through town and we were able to have a really nice visit and lunch together. I haven't seen this friend in two years, though we are in touch over the phone & email. It was great to see her! I recommended the Sunshine Cafe for lunch, since they are so reliable and decently priced.

As usual, I had the clubhouse with fries - excellent as always!

My friend had a chicken burger, but dug in before I could get a photo; she ordered it with the salad of the day, which was spinach with bacon & sauteed mushrooms with blue cheese dressing. She was really happy with it. My friend's sister opted for an all-day breakfast item: omlette with chorizo and some other stuff, served with toast & homemade hashbrowns. She was also happy. So, more Sunshine Cafe converts...if only they lived closer!

Weird Orange & Sunshine Cafe Lunch

Last week, as I was preparing to make Morning Glory Muffins at work, I came across a really strange-looking orange:
No, your eyes are not deceiving you: that is a pale, bulging section of orange peel, the same size & shape of a regular orange section. I have never ever seen anything like it before. Have any of you? The inside of the orange looked quite normal - no weird section underneath that peel. It's kind of cool, though, isn't it?

I went for lunch to the Sunshine Cafe with my brother the other day. The special was a tuna melt, and that's what I had, with fries. My brother had a veggie burger with Swiss cheese and grilled onions, with a Caesar salad. As usual, lunch at the Sunshine was great. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal there. Go Randi!

Out to Lunch

I've been out to lunch twice this week, which has been very nice.

On Wednesday, Dad and I took one of our trips to Nelson to shop at Save-on Foods. It was a gorgeous day, so we opted to buy some picnic stuff at the store and eat in the nearby park. We found a really nice spot...
I had a cheesy foccacia from the Save-on Bakery that was delish. It had garlic and herbs in it, too. Say what you want about grocery store bakeries, but Save-on has some really great products! I also had some fruit salad and muffin, also from the bakery.My dad had a salad and some sausage rolls, followed by some bridge mix. We had an uninvited guest, too:Did you know that crows don't like oranges or melon? Well, you do now!

Then yesterday, my SIL and I went to our favourite Rossland haunt for lunch, the Sunshine Cafe. Both of us felt the need to break away from having our "usuals" and we both opted for the special of the day, which was a BBQ chicken quesadilla. My SIL had hers with fries and I had mine with the soup of the day, which was cream of mushroom.The quesadilla, and the homemade salsa that accompanied it, was excellent. The soup was very rich, but not exactly my cup of tea. Still, the Sunshine Rocks!

Lunch at the Sunshine Cafe

Sorry I've been away for a bit; just not feeling well. I did get out for lunch today with my brother, to our usual haunt, Rossland's Sunshine Cafe. As usual, the food was really good!

My brother had the sandwich of the day, which was Greek Chicken Salad Wrap - chock full of olives, feta, and good stuff like that. It had celery in it, which he hates, but he put up with it.

Usually, I have the Clubhouse, but I decided to change things up and have a chicken burger with Swiss cheese, mushrooms, and sauteed onions. Yes, I had fries, too. Sue me; I'm sick.

Sunshine Cafe's First Anniversary

I feel like such a slacker. I don't have a Magazine Monday post for today because I couldn't be bothered, and I don't have any posts coming down the pipes for the rest of the week, either; usually I have several scheduled to publish in advance, but this week, nada.

Which doesn't mean there won't be any; I'm just not as on the ball as I usually am with this stuff. I have a mood disorder, in case you didn't know, and I think it's starting to rear its ugly head again.

Anyways, I did go out for a great lunch at a local hot spot on Friday. The Sunshine Cafe (previously posted about here, here, here and here) celebrated it's one year anniversary with Randi at the helm and my brother, SIL and I all went for lunch with my brother's co-worker and his girlfriend. It was a beautiful day and we sat out at one of the sidewalk tables in the sun.

At the counter where you order, there were free homemade cookies on offer, and there was Bailey's and Khalua available for your coffee should you want it.

For lunch, I had my standby, the Clubhouse. It was so huge I couldn't get my dainty little mouth around it. But it sure was good.My SIL had a veggie burger with bacon, mushrooms and Swiss cheese. She said it was great.My brother had the lunch special, which was a chicken pannini with avocado and a sauce I can't remember the ingredients for. He said it was also great.

Breakfast at the Sunshine Cafe

This morning I got together with three old friends from high school. T now lives in Vancouver, but she was in town this week to visit family. This morning was the only time the four of us could all get together for some girl time and gabbing. We chose to have breakfast at one of Rossland's well-known eateries, The Sunshine Cafe. I've previously reviewed the Sunshine here and here, and this was the first time I've had breakfast there. I'd heard only good things about it.



The menu is a la carte and each item is individually-priced. I had two eggs ($2), hashbrowns ($2), three bacon ($2), and toast ($2). The hashbrowns had sweet potatoes in them, which I don't like, and next time I wouldn't order them. The scrambled eggs were a little strange-looking but tasted good. For $10 it was a good amount of food and I came away satisfied.








P had two eggs basted, sausage, hash browns and toast.











T had two eggs over easy, bacon, and hashbrowns.












My most excellent friend, Budgirl, who has not blogged in eons, had something a bit different: the Western Denver, also with hashbrowns, and a side of tzadziki (huh???). Budgirl marches to the beat of her own drummer!





A good time was had by all, and once again The Sunshine Cafe delivered!
